Hawley switches position, no longer supports corporate tax cuts - Missourinet

Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley is no longer supporting tax cuts for large corporations, which is being proposed by fellow Republican Donald Trump as Trump tries to win back the White House. Hawley supported Trump’s tax plan when Hawley was first running for the Senate in 2017. He now states that labor should not be taxed more than capital.

“I think this idea that all these corporations, who, by the way, many of them, don’t pay any taxes…the idea that they ought to get all of these tax breaks, and meanwhile, working people are paying more and more payroll taxes? I think that’s the reverse of how it should be,” Hawley told KMOX radio in St. Louis.

When asked if taxes should be raised or cut on corporations, Hawley said that depends.

“My view is this- if these corporations want favorable tax treatment, they better show that they’re doing something for the United States of America, and that begins with American workers,” he said. “I want to see that they are employing American workers, giving them good wages, and they’re creating jobs in this country. If they’re not, I don’t know why we would give them more tax cuts.”

Hawley, a Republican, is facing Democratic nominee Lucas Kunce, Jared Young of the Better Party, Nathan Kline of the Green Party, and Libertarian W.C. Young.
